Wat Khiri Mat
Koh Samui might be most well known for its expansive white sand beaches and crystal blue inviting waters, which are something to be noted for sure, but there are plenty of other interesting spots and attractions one should aspire to check out on Koh Samui as well. Wat Khiri Mat, for example, is a beautiful temple where one can see some classic Thai Buddhist temple architecture and enjoy the areas of luscious green shade and trees that Koh Samui has to offer its guests as well. You will know when you've arrived at Wat Khiri Mat as there is a beautiful and stunning yellow and blue arch marking the entrance to the temple grounds. Wat Khiri Mat is situated atop of a small hill at the end of the road and is surrounded by numerous shades of greenery and an abundance of plant life. If you want to see all that Koh Samui has to offer, be sure to take a break from the beaches and enjoy Wat Khiri Mat's beauty and charm as well.
Wat Pradoem
Wat Pradoem is believed to have been the first temple built on Koh Samui and is therefore rich with history and culture. Wat Pradoem was built around 250 years ago at the very end of the Ayutthaya Period in Thailand. Wat Pradoem was originally built to serve as a monastery but was later abandoned. Nowadays, Wat Pradoem is home to a scripture hall where a series of Buddhist scriptures which are stunningly beautiful in their own right are cared for and stored. One can access Wat Pradoem easily from Route 4169 on Koh Samui Island. Wat Pradoem is a frequently travelled destination and if you happen to stray off the regular path, most all local islanders will be able to point you in the right direction easily. One can just feel the history and ancient culture that is embedded within Wat Pradoem and this temple is a great place to start your adventure of exploring Koh Samui Island.
Wat Nara Charoen Suk
Wat Nara Charoen Suk is a stunning temple nestled amongst the greenery and hillsides of Koh Samui's luscious forests and valleys. Wat Nara Charoen has been under construction for some time as one of the smaller buildings at the temple sight is currently being renovated into a much larger and grander structure. Wat Nara Charoen Suk has a very elegant and delicate design due to a tall and long tower that graces the facade of the temple. The drive one must take to reach Wat Nara Charoen Suk is also very enjoyable and one will be inclined to stop numerous times along the way to take advantage of the picturesque scenery. If you are looking for a pleasant drive that won't take up to much of your day and time on Koh Samui then Wat Nara Charoen Suk is a great short trip where you can capture some excellent photos of the other side of Koh Samui before heading back to the beckoning beaches and sunshine.
Wat Srisuwannaram
If you are looking to enjoy a quiet and serene temple atmosphere that is off the beaten track from most tourists destinations on Koh Samui, then Wat Srisuwannaram might be a good afternoon or day trip to meet your desires. Wat Srisuwannaram is a small temple comprised of a small building, which is white in colour, and one larger pagoda which stands at the front. A large gate will let you know you have arrived and is stunning itself in its design and size. It is not difficult to reach Wat Krisuwannaram, as it is only a short drive from Nathon near the Ban Laem Hoy School, but you are unlikely to run into many other visitors at this sight due to its lack of decoration and use at this time. This shouldn't deter your visit however as an afternoon passed with a good book in the setting of a quiet old temple on Koh Samui is surely something to be enjoyed and the quiet little Wat Srisuwannaram might be just the place to get away from it all and relax on your Koh Samui holiday.
