Wat Sila Ngu
Wat Sila Ngu on Koh Samui Island is an example of a piece of stunning architecture created in unbeatable surroundings. When one enters Wat Sila Ngu they will immediately feel the sea breeze blowing against their hair as the temple itself is placed and situated directly next to the beachfront and is graced by a backdrop of a beautiful ocean view. Wat Sila Ngu is home to an actual relic of Buddha and is therefore frequented by local Buddhist worshipers and tourists alike. Wat Sila Ngu is also the location for many Buddhist holiday celebrations and festivities and if you are lucky you might find your Koh Samui holiday overlaps with an event at Wat Sila Ngu where you can experience real Thai worship and culture and join in many of the fun activities taking place at Wat Sila Ngu. Wat Sila Ngu is located between Hua Thanon And Lamai, just ask any local and they can point you in the right direction.
Laem Sor Chedhi
If you're looking to take a break from the beach, sun and waves then a quick visit to Laem Sor Chedhi can be a great way to add a little culture into your Koh Samui holiday. The Laem Sor Chedhi is located near the village of Ban Laem Sor along the southern coast of the island. The Laem Sor Chedhi itself is ordained in a overlay of golden yellow tiles making it appear against the backdrops of rocks and waves like a sun rising out of the ocean. There are plenty of quiet wooded and shady areas around the Laem Sor Chedhi where one can enjoy a little quiet time away from the beach atmosphere to relax and enjoy the slow-paced life. One can easily walk to the Laem Sor Chedhi as there are many paths along the island with clear signs pointing visitors in the right direction. A short stop off at Laem Sor Chedhi can be just the refresher you need to mix a little culture and time for reflection into your Koh Samui holiday.
Wat Chaeng
Wat Chaeng, located on Koh Samui, is a stunning temple in its own right but also serves the community of Koh Samui as more of a school and educational institution at this time. The front of the Wat Chaeng temple is home to a large Buddha statue which is designed in a pose with one hand resting on his knee and the other raised with thumb and index finger touching. The large statue creates a welcoming and grand atmosphere at the facade of the temple and draws visitors and locals alike inside were two large green and gold statues flank the entrance and frame the Buddha stature. This temple is not frequented by visitors and is more functional for the community of Koh Samui than it is a location of worship. The Buddha statue however is quiet beautiful and Wat Chaeng is easy to get to from the southend of Koh Samui Island. Therefore, if you want to see an aspect of the real Thai way of life, a visit to Wat Chaeng might be the perfect means of doing so.
Wat Khao Hua Juk
Wat Khao Hua Juk lies opposite Chaweng Beach on a small mountain that rises above sea level at approximately 90 meters. When it comes to mountains in Thailand, 90 meters is a relatively small hike, and by undertaking the climb you will be able to take in the views that Wat Khao Hua Juk has to offer which are nothing short of spectacular. From Wat Khao Hua Juk one can see not only the Chaweng Bay and Samui Airport, but also Wat Bang Rak, Koh Lum Noi, Koh Sum, Koh Faan, Tao Poon, the famous Big Buddha and last but not least, some absolutely unforgettable sunsets. Plan the time of your trek to Wat Khao Hua Juk at the right time and you can experience a picturesque sunset more gorgeous than any you've seen on a postcard or travel blog before. The Wat itself at Wat Khao Hua Juk is equally stunning and beautiful and a trek up this small mountain should surely be considered if you want to take in some of the best views there are to be had in all of Koh Samui.
