Chaweng is home to some of the largest and loudest clubs on Samui, including the famous Green Mango and the Reggae Pub, located in central Chaweng. For those who prefer live music, get yourself to northern Chaweng where the pubs feature some of the island's best local acts. These include fun cover bands, stylish jazz bands and solo acts. One of the best places to see live bands is Tropical Murphy's, an Irish Pub that's packed and rocking every single night of the week.
For a more soft and relaxing environment, pay a visit to southern Chaweng, or one of the quieter beaches such as Bophut or Big Buddha beach. One of the best places to sit and chill out for a night has to be Zico's bar, where you can fill your face with a tasty Brazilian mixed grill plate while enjoying the nightly samba show. If you want to relax and catch the sunset while you drink, Big Buddha and Bophut beaches are both very popular with backpackers are all great places to find relaxing beach bars.
For any revellers looking for something of a slightly more saucy nature, Lamai beach is famous, or perhaps infamous for its plethora of go go bars concentrated on the main beach road. These bars are very seedy and easily spotted by the number of Thai girls standing around outside, beckoning in customers and sometimes even trying to drag them in! These bars offer naughty stripteases and sexy dance shows.
When it comes to eating, there is a wealth of options available on Samui. The island has it all, from expensive, glitzy five star restaurants to street food vendors offering savory 20 baht snacks. Scattered across the island are thousands of eateries serving up Thai food, western food, an abundance of fresh sea food, barbecues, Chinese, Indian, French, Italian food and more. You will never go hungry on Koh Samui, the only problem is having so many choices.
Koh Samui's nightlife is also famous for its lady boys and cabaret shows, many of which can be found at Chaweng beach. These shows are definitely worth a visit if you want to have a good laugh or if you are mildly curious. They offer great entertainment value at a very little cost. Some of the best are considered a must see for Samui visitors.
For sports fans, one great nighttime option is to go see Muay Thai, a traditional Thai boxing match at the stadium on Chaweng beach. These fights offer vicious and bloodthirsty action along with a great atmosphere and even a bit of gambling to make it all that much more exciting.
Samui is also a great place for late night shopping and there is truly something to suit everyone's budget. There's a good array of options available, from souvenir markets at Chaweng where you can buy CD's, sunglasses and beachwear to the upscale emporiums at Bophut and Choeng Mon where you'll find designer goods, jewelery and perfumes among other things.
