If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place on Koh Samui in which to while away your evenings, or if you prefer a more romantic setting, then Choeng Mon beach can provide what you want. Perhaps due to its more upmarket image, or due to the fact that the beach resorts themselves target package holiday tourists. Nighttime at Choeng Mon beach is much quieter and less busy than many other beaches on Samui. Most of the nightlife here is limited to the hotels and resorts themselves, with one or two pleasant beach bars and restaurants around as well as a few hotel boutiques available for evening shopping.
Bars and restaurants
Although mostly very quiet in the evenings, there is a sprinkling of restaurants near the beach behind the Choengmon Buri Hotel. These restaurants all offer some great Thai dishes and seafood dishes and drinks, making them a worthwhile visit during your stay at Choeng Mon.
The Starfish
This place serves up fresh, locally caught seafood at fairly reasonable prices that are certainly a great deal cheaper than most of the hotel restaurants around. This very quiet and friendly establishment is owned and staffed by a local Chinese-Thai family and is a very pleasant venue for families and good friends to come enjoy tasty dishes or a few quiet drinks.
Viking Bar
This is another bar ran by Scandinavian personnel, this time by a Norwegian guy named Erik and his Thai wife Lek. This is the second Viking bar on Koh Samui along the first one that was opened up previously on Chaweng beach. Erik is a very friendly guy and is able to cook up many great tasting European and American dishes and is willing to give out advice about local attractions and tours. The Viking bar is a much quieter place compared to its sister bar in Chaweng and is much more suited to families with children.
Hotel restaurants
By far the most plentiful night venues in supply at Choeng Mon beach are the hotels that dot the landscape. Many of the best hotel restaurants specialize in one type of food or another, and many have foreign chefs in order to guarantee a top quality nighttime feast.
SALA Samui Resort
A five star resort with a matching five star outdoor restaurant, this is certainly one of the more expensive evening options for tourists at Choeng Mon beach. The restaurant itself offers a choice of 4 different menus: Thai, Western, Chinese and Indian food. The greatest aspect of SALA is the nightly entertainment. In addition to the skilled house pianist they offer a magic show for kids.
Atlantis Resort and Spa
This resort has two restaurants, one offering Thai food and the other western cuisine. Both are extremely spacious with enchanting candlelit tables, perfect for that romantic evening for two. These restaurants located either side of the hotel and offer great views of the beach and stunning sunsets.
Shopping
Many of the hotels on Choeng Mon beach contain boutiques and shops that stay open until late evening. Most of the boutiques are quite expensive though if you're on a budget walking around and viewing some of the items on display is a pleasant way to spend the evening. Some of the best hotels with evening shopping are the Destination Beach Resort and Spa and the SALA Samui Resort.
