Sometimes called the Fisherman's village, the central part of Bophut town is now flooded with designer shops, boutiques and posh restaurants offering menu items from around the world. Despite some of the high prices, it's a great little area to explore at night. Bophut differs from some of the busier parts of Koh Samui in that there are no girlie bars or massage places around town, so it offers an altogether more pleasant atmosphere and better experience for families than other parts of the island.
Bars and restaurants
Bophut is the place to come to if you are definitely not interested in the party scene that other parts of Samui have to offer. However, Bophut is still a far from boring place to spend the evenings, as there are still plenty of quieter bars and restaurants around for you to enjoy.
Karma Sutra
If you were expecting something seedy, then you have most definitely come to the wrong place. Despite the name, the Karma Sutra is a very well run, upscale restaurant with a trendy boutique attached to it. The place is basically a refitted old Chinese shop house, but the owner has done a great job with the wooden interior and has managed to create a most elegant and charming setting. Karma Sutra offers meals and drinks well into the late hours and is a very nice and friendly place to spend the night.
Sirocco Bar
The best thing about this place is probably the location, set right in the center of Bophut town near the pier meaning it's one of the best spots around for people watching. Sitting outside, watching people go past while gently sipping a beer or snacking on nibbles, it's possible to see the evening hours fly by without even knowing it. With cool and mellow jazz music playing in the background, the Sirocco Bar is a perfect place to come and relax after a long day on the beach.
Bob Marley Pub
For reggae fans, this is the only place to be in Bophut. It consists of nothing more than a small wooden shack and a few bamboo tables beside the beach, but don't let that put you off. This place always attracts a young, hip and friendly crowd making it a great place to drink, smoke, meet other travelers and make friends. And of course it goes without saying, but they play a fine selection of Bob Marley and other reggae tunes.
Shopping
While there may not be any discos around in Bophut, one thing there are plenty of is shops. For all the shopaholics out there, Bophut will make your island paradise dream come true.
Bophut Plaza
Located in the center of Bophut town, the Plaza is open from 6pm to late and is the best place to go and grab all of those souvenirs that you need to take home. Every kind of tourist knickknack is available here, from DVD's to t-shirts to sunglasses to hats and fake Levi jeans, all at great prices. It would be a hard job to walk through Bophut Plaza and not part with any of your hard earned cash.
Siri Boutique
If you really want to splurge on your shopping, then the Siri Boutique is certainly an easy place to do so. Siri offers silver jewelry, jade amulets and beautiful hand made bags from as far away as India and China amongst other things. Siri boasts prices to make even the most carefree holiday maker think twice!
