Big Buddha beach resorts are quickly growing in popularity and a lot of work has been done on the area to improve its image. It is most well recognised by the giant golden Buddha temple that sits out to sea and can be visited by causeway. The temple is often shown in images of Koh Samui and Thailand in general and it is an amazing sight. It is still an active temple so you must dress respectfully for the monks. The sandy beach is calm and relaxing with great water for swimming in. Some parts of the beach are less developed than others and on the outer edges of big Buddha beach you can find quiet spots that are sheltered by palm trees swaying in the sea breeze. More central parts of Big Buddha beach have accommodation backing onto them and so there are bars and restaurants for you to sit at while you take in the view. It is a great place to relax and enjoy some Thai food and a drink or two late afternoon as the sun sets.

If you are planning a trip to the full moon party on the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan, then Big Buddha beach is the main travel point for the Had Rinn Queen and the speedboats that take people across on the night. These boats do fill quickly and if you are going to go across for the party then it is better to leave earlier rather than later where it can get very busy.

Just behind the beach, on the main stretch are a wide variety of lively bars and restaurants that are open late into the evening. There are also a few unique Big Buddha spas that will pamper and treat you until you feel every tension drift away. The beach is often chosen for a place to stay that is convenient for the airport and the lively evenings of Chaweng but is combined with the peace and affordability of being slightly outside of the main town.
